Reporting Relationship :
The General Manager, China will report to the General Manager, Asia Pacific who is based in Hong Kong
Responsibilities :
Maintaining effective relationships with distributors, dealers and end-user networks.
Continuously assessing existing distribution channels and the organization for effectiveness and provide strategies for development.
Assuming a strong profile with direct customers, especially government agencies, in representing the company's products and business opportunities.
Developing marketing and sales strategies. The General Manager will create and execute effective strategies for the maintenance of existing business and growth of new businesses in China .
Leading the process of business development, identifying the greatest threats and opportunities to enhance the brand image.
Developing staff skills profiles in line with emerging business needs.
Establishing and continuously reviewing specific performance objectives for each distributor and segment of business within the China market.
Reviewing and measuring results within the business against the strategic plan, including market penetration, sales volume and profitability.
Maintaining effective relationships and information exchange within his/her organization and the Asia Pacific team by regular direct contact with the Regional Team.
Adhering to brand, communications and information reporting guidelines.
Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of changing business environment in China including relevant government legislation, import & export regulations, foreign exchange controls, etc..
In light of the changing business environment, continuously assessing the best business models to optimize the company's go-to-market priorities.
Establishing and maintaining the highest standards of corporate governance in all dealings with market partners.
The incumbent will be the key person to define the direction, design and lead the China strategy. In terms of day-to-day activities, it is expected that the role will have both an operational and strategic focus.
Qualifications :
The ideal candidate should have at least 8-10 years' experience in sales and marketing field, of which 3-4 years will have been in a national sales / marketing role or 2+ years in a general management role for a multinational operation in China .
The incumbent will have had responsibility and managed a multi-functional team (sales, marketing, finance, HR, logistics, etc.).
The individual will come from a solid sales and marketing background, and will be familiar with retail and/or end user sales models. This need not necessarily be confined to fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) people, but also industrial companies that are familiar with selling and delivering products to end-users.
It is expected that the individual be able to understand and maintain the existing business-to-business / institutional sales activities, as well as initiate and grow a consumer business.
It is vital that candidate have a strong combination of sales, marketing, distribution, commercial and operating capabilities.
There is a need for a person who can manage a broad range of activities - juggle a number of balls at the same time, and be involved in leading all aspects of the business in China .
The General Manager will need to be cost conscious and comfortable with leading a lean organization.
It is essential that the incumbent have a good commercial orientation and a basic understanding of financial issues.
To enhance the local company culture and further develop the team, there will be a strong human recourse element to this role.
Time will need to be dedicated to training, coaching, managing, motivating people and building the organization.
The individual must be willing to learn and eager to teach. Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as persuasive, multicultural, team oriented and open personality will be required.
The successful candidate must be a detail oriented, entrepreneurial, self-starter, who is highly motivated, able to operate independently and is able to create and initiate business development plans.
S/He should possess solid decision-making abilities, and feel comfortable with making tough and possibly unpopular calls.
It is as equally important that the General Manager have a personality suited to the business and the current style of the operation.
S/He should be a very down-to-earth, hands-on, street smart manager with an approachable yet firm and decisive personality.
The individual will also be a professional, mature and confident person, with the stature to gain respect from peers, subordinates and external contacts. Above all, the successful incumbent should have unquestionable ethic and integrity.
It is expected the individual will have a university education, and there is a preference for postgraduate studies, especially an overseas MBA.
It is also vital that the incumbent speaks, reads and writes fluent English and Mandarin.
