Responsibilities :
The Consumer Healthcare business of the company is a newly established operation in China .
The company has entered into an agreement with a Hong Kong based partner, which will handle the sales and distribution of the products in China .
The incoming General Manager will take responsibility for the company's consumer health business in China .
His initial focus will include spearheading all the market entry strategies and pre-launch preparation for the test markets tentatively scheduled.
The General Manager's main task will be to set up a small and high performing infrastructure in the country and drive the start up activities according to key milestones laid down by senior management.
Driving overall business strategy and achieving key milestone events of the Business Plan including the following:
Securing appropriate licenses
Office start up
Recruitment of key staff members
Test market preparation and implementation including subsequent rollout.
Achieving annual sales / profit targets; overall profit & loss management.
Propelling and driving the start-up activities in the first two years of the Joint Venture.
Overseeing a team of senior managers in Finance, Sales, Human Resources, Regulatory Affairs and Marketing as the organization expands.
Co-ordinating with the manufacturing group.
Establishing and strengthening a constructive working relationship with the JV partner.
Acting as the representative of the company with government agencies, business partners as well as in the consumer healthcare industry.
Qualifications :
Experience
At least 8 years' classical marketing experience with a multinational consumer healthcare / consumer products company.
Exposure to general management experience such as the management of a business unit would be highly desirable.
A working knowledge of SDA/MOH regulations, sales distribution systems and media buying strategies are definite advantages.
Skills and Attributes
Fluency in Mandarin and a good command of English.
Strong leadership and management skills. The General Manager must be capable of seeing the wider, long-term perspective and be able to take the business from a relatively underdeveloped, to more sophisticated level.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, both with local clients, colleagues and in co-ordination with head office.
An affinity for dealing with people from different cultures and a proven ability to lead, co-ordinate and motivate subordinates / peers, and an orientation towards good teamwork are all examples of the required ”°people skills”±.
Due to the critical nature of the role, the successful candidate must demonstrate attention to detail.
Ability to travel extensively in China .
Above all, unquestionable ethics and integrity.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, with preferably a postgraduate degree such as an MBA.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and ”°hands on”± individual who is task oriented with a high degree of creativity and initiative.
He/she will be an adept negotiator with sound business judgment and both articulate and persuasive.
He/she must possess a track record of excellence as a senior manager and be a strong leader, with the ability to delegate responsibility when necessary.
The individual must have the stature and the presence to quickly gain the respect and confidence of his/her staff, peers and supervisors within the organization in China and the headquarters.
He/she must also have the ability to work under pressure and be an agent of change and change management within the group.
It should also be pointed out that the key challenges of this position are that the candidate must be a true ”°developer”± attracted by the challenge of building up an organization through recruiting and developing staff members while putting in place management principles, procedures and policies.
He/she must have a real potential to manage the ambitious growth targets.
